Welcome!

Thanks for visiting my site for "The Well and Spindle"! My name is Karina and I have always been interested in nature and the natural world. Everything I make I use myself or would use if needed. I make these items for many reasons, one of which is for those like myself who are disenchanted with the mass produced magical items found in most Occult and Metaphysical shops. I hope you like them! Visit www.TheWellAndSpindle.etsy.com
to see some of the items I have to offer!

"The Well and Spindle" was named after a story regarding Frau Holle (Holda/Hulle/etc). Recently, I have become quite enamored with her! I have always loved folk lore and tales, but SHE has found a way to take a big chunk of that love for herself. Stories about her can easily be found using your preferred search engine. There are even Yahoo.com groups (one of which I am a member) that are dedicated to her. Feel free to contact me for information regarding Frau Holle if you would like!

Thanks! Danke!

The Story behind the Yarn Poppets:

I originally started "The Well and Spindle" making magical Yarn Poppets. Here is the beginning of their story:

Years ago my Opa (grandpa in German) took my middle sister and myself to a very pleasant Victorian-style day camp in Lake Tahoe. The activities started by dividing the boys from the girls in order for the two groups to learn how to create two different types of toys made and played with by children at some point in the Victorian era. The girls learned how to make little yarn dollies to call their own.

All these years later I still remember how each of us lovingly created these yarn dolls that I have decided to start making again today.

My dolls (or poppets if you prefer) are different in many ways from the doll I had originally created, but I hope you will enjoy all the quirks and somewhat “modern” twists that have been added.

Various types of poppets can be found in many cultures all over the globe. I have been told mine tend to learn toward Scandinavian Yarn Dolls with my own personal touches of course.
